Why I left IMVU.

One person's journey from Imvu to SL.

I joined imvu back in 2018 when I was feeling alone. I used to be apart of it back in 2010 when I was in high school but when I joined the navy I kind of forgot about it, but I had seen an ad on Instagram about it and gave it another shot. At first I was all about finding people I vibed with. I found a group of people I considered family but as time went on I found so much drama in that group.

I went a different route and started to model, I was in a couple of agencies but being in the navy I couldn’t keep up with the demand, so I switched to freelance modeling. I remember when I first found out about the app and discover. I tried so hard to get on. I become a regular on the discover page, when it was just that to discover great artists and their work. 2020 was the height of imvu and I loved going into rooms and meeting people. Building genuine friendships and taking pictures. My goal was to tell a story through them. The community was wonderful. They then started to adding things I didn’t find enjoyable. They push the app more than the classic. They don’t update the classic imvu like they should. They added dtod and then parties came through. That’s when it became a popularity contest. If you don’t go to parties regularly or are not in a relationship you are at the bottom of the barrel.

That’s is when I started to transition to second life.

It doesn’t have the community like imvu but no one cares if you are popular or not. You go sim hopping (like room hopping) and you meet people. There is a lot more freedom on second life. I had found my peace in second life. I found I have more creative outlook on second life then I have in the 7 years I was on imvu.
