A Photo Artist's tale: RyRy's story

I’ve always seen myself as an artistic person or at least I like to think so. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been drawn to creating and expressing myself through art. I studied art throughout primary and secondary school, where I even had the opportunity to represent my school in various art competitions and exhibitions. Those experiences helped me appreciate creativity in all its forms and was the catalyst for my artistic journey.

In 2019, I started playing IMVU, and that’s really where my interest in digital art and editing began. I remember coming across edits for #TopEditTuesday on Discover and being completely fascinated by them. The creativity, detail, and imagination behind those edits inspired me to try it out for myself. I wanted to someday be good at digital art like these editors I saw on discover. At that point, I had never done digital art before, so it was definitely a challenge (still is). Learning how to use editing tools and understanding the process of digital composition was new to me, and my first few edits were honestly quite bad (they still are lol). But I was determined to improve, so I kept practicing, experimenting, and learning from others

Over time, I started to see some progress in my work. In 2020, one of my edits was featured for #TopEditTuesday on discover, and that was a big moment for me. It gave me a small boost of confidence to keep trying. From there, I became even more passionate about developing my skills. I began exploring new techniques and learning how to make better use of Procreate to bring my creative ideas to life.

Additionally, in 2022 I participated in Season 9 of IMVU’s Next Top Model (@nexttopmodelvu on IG) where I made it to the finale and finished as the runner-up out of 12 contestants. This competition challenged me to step out of my comfort zone as there were 10 weekly themes to complete and other very talented editors and models to compete against. I was really nervous throughout the competition but it proved to me that perhaps I am not as bad as I thought (I am still very bad).

Digital art and editing has since become a major creative outlet for me. It allows me to express my ideas, and imagination in ways that traditional art sometimes can’t. Even now, I still get nervous when posting my work, but I’ve learned that growth comes from pushing myself out of my comfort zone (am working on this). I want to continue improving and refining my skills so that one day I can feel confident enough to accept art commissions. My goal is to keep learning, keep creating, and ultimately become the best artist I can be, someone who not only grows in skill but also inspires others the same way I was inspired when I first started.
